With a Maltese or Shih Tzu puppy, there is a lot of work involved in keeping them clean. All of these are important, to have a happy, healthy dog.

Coat Care: Daily brushing to keep it clean and free of tangles & burrs. When your dog gets feces by it's rear end, wait until it dries, then comb it out. Bathing can be done once a week. Remember to brush the coat before the bath and after it dries. You may if you wish, use a blow dryer, but be careful as this can be dangerous during the summer, as your dog can overheat. Purchase shampoo from any store or vet. Creme rinse after bath.

Ear Care: Keep the inside of the ears, free from all hair. Before bathing, pull out hair with a round tip tweezers. When all hair has been removed, apply ear drops. Clean out ear canal with a Q-tip. Keep ears free of hair, by pulling it out as it accumulates. Hair in the ears, causes the dog, a great deal of itching, as well as, ear infection and a foul odor.

Eye Care: Keep the dogs hair cut short or pulled up into a topknot, with a bow. If the whites of the eyes, are red and watery, apply eye drops. Purchase these at the vet. Wash the face daily, to keep it clean from tear stains.

Care of the feet: You may if you wish, clip the hair from the bottoms of the feet. This will help keep the feet, free of burrs, feces, mudd, etc.....keep the toe nails clipped short.

If you haven't got time to comb your dog daily, at least do him a favor, by keeping him clipped short.
